What I'm Going To Do For My Thing
For my Surrealism photo I am going to take a picture of my take with my eye and mouth being covered by my hands. I am then going to take a picture of my mouth and put it over my hand. Then I am going to take a picture of my eye and put it over my other hand. It is going to look as if my mouth and eye are coming through my hands.

Surrealistic Artists Research
Artist
Review
René François Ghislain Magritte (November 1898 – August 1967)
was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and
thought-provoking images that fall under the umbrella of surrealism. His work
is known for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality.
Max
Ernst (April
1891 – April 1976) was a German painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and poet. A
prolific artist, Ernst was a primary pioneer of the Dada movement and
Surrealism.
Title of
Artwork: The Son of Man
Date of
Work: 1964
Description:
It is an apple in front of the man’s face.
It shows what is visible but hidden.
Analysis:
The piece is vertical. It is centered in
the page. The simple colors of the piece
bring out a lot of focus to the apple.
Interpretation: I think the meaning is that the man is
clearly visible and you can see him, but he is hiding a small piece of him that
is untold.
Judgment:
I think the piece is very well thought out and very well done. I like how it is so simple yet portrays such
a significant meaning.
Title of
Artwork: The Elephant Celebes
Date of
Work: 1921
Description:
It seems to be a huge mechanical elephant.
There is also a woman with no head.
Analysis:
The piece is very well put together. The
color scheme is great and the fact that there is so much going on in one
picture makes every little detail stand out.
Interpretation:
I have no idea what the interpretation of this is.
Judgment:
I think the picture is very well done.
There is a lot of meaning behind it even though I don’t know what it is.
Part #3 –
Rene Magritte’s work is very plain, simple, and easily understood whereas Max
Earnst’s work is very complex. Rene has
one simple meaning to his photo and doesn’t have much going on, but Ernst’s
photo is very confusing. They are both
about the same age so they entered Surrealism around the same time.

Artistic Inspirations
The Last Supper, Leonardo da Vinci I chose this picture because it is of my religion and because it shows a visual of the last supper. Leonardo da Vinci was an amazing artist. |
Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo I like this picture of the Sistine Chapel because it is unbelievable art work. It is so detailed and must have taken so much time and effort. |
Yellow, Nathan Sawaya I chose this picture because it was made out of legos and is very different than other art work. |
The Starry Night, Vincent van Gogh
I like this painting because I think that the way that it is painted is very different and makes it stand out.
|
A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Georges Seurat I chose this because this isn't painted like most pictures are. This picture is created by stippling and I think it is really interesting. |

Before and After
This is a before and after picture of my leg and foot after a lot of photo editing. I used curves, edited the saturation, edited the color, and a few other things.

Photography Composition
Leading Line
Leading Line- Line that leads object to other end
of the image.
This picture works because the rocks create a
line that show distance into the picture.
The rocks are larger in the front then decrease in size until the end.
The rocks lead the recycle bin at the end.
Rhythm
Rhythm- a strong, regular, repeated pattern
of movement or sound.
This picture
works because the pattern is repeated.
The squares on this tie are equal in color and flow. This photograph has equal measure between the
squares resulting in a repeating pattern.
Framing
Framing- the action of framing something.
This photograph works because the subject is framed. The two poles act as a barrier around the
subject. The person is in between two
poles acting as a frame.

Horizontal
Horizontal- parallel to the plane of the
horizon; at right angles to the vertical.
This photo shows “Horizontal” because the picture is wider
than it is tall. The house is very wide
therefore portraying a horizontal view.
It is parallel with the horizon line.
Vertical
Vertical- at right
angles to a horizontal plane; in a direction, or having an alignment, such that
the top is directly above the bottom.
This picture works because it is taller than it is wide. The
sign is vertical. The image is narrower
than it is wide.
